We recently participated in a workshop in which the NYS Department of Health brought together hearing health professionals from across the state to help implement the new requirements for reporting hearing loss diagnoses and early intervention for infants and children in New York State. This will improve the tracking of infants who fail newborn hearing screenings and ensure follow-up intevention is obtained in a timely manner. Providing appropriate treatment services as early as possible is crucial for infants, as there are critical periods for language acquisition. If you or someone you know has a newborn who has failed an initial screening and would like more information about how to proceed with follow-up services, please call our audiologist Ron D’Angelo, AuD with questions you may have.
